Nicolas Vergnet is a doctor of law and Assistant Professor in public law at the University Panthéon-Assas (Paris 2). In parallel to his teaching activities, he works as a tax consultant in the Tax and Structuring Department of the Mayer Brown law firm. His doctoral thesis on “Value creation and allocation in international tax law” has been awarded the Mitchell B. Carroll Prize of the International Fiscal Association. He is the author of numerous articles and research works in major French publications including Les Echos, Revue de Droit Fiscal, and CF News Immo & Infra.

Gareth Rees is the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) within Liberty GTS. Gareth also leads the development of the GTS Contingent Legal Risk product. Gareth has been in the transactional risk insurance market for seven years and prior to that spent 10 years as a qualified lawyer in the corporate department of an international law firm.

Lionel Lesur focuses his legal practice primarily on the areas of corporate law, mergers and acquisitions and competition/distribution law. Lionel advises domestic and international companies from a broad range of industries, as well as investment funds and top managers. He has experience in the negotiation of private mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts (including management packages and long-term incentive plans), complex commercial contracts and in advising foreign companies seeking to establish themselves in France. He has in-depth experience with European and French competition law, including international merger control, antitrust proceedings and abuse of dominant position. Lionel also regularly advises clients in relation to distribution strategies and compliance programs.

Dr. Moritz Bassemir is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Valuation Services in Frankfurt. He has worked on national and international mergers, handling business valuations and purchase price allocations and has experience in regulated valuations for tax, legal and financial reporting purposes.

Samuel Whiteman is the Head of London and Emerging Markets within Liberty GTS, responsible for transactions in the UK, Ireland, CEE, SEE, Baltics, Middle East and Africa and oversees an underwriting team of eight. Samuel joined the transactional insurance market in 2016, and prior to that spent over five years as a qualified lawyer in the corporate department of an international law firm.

Tom Whelan focuses his practice on private equity, advising private equity sponsors, multi strategy funds, other private capital investors and corporates, helping them deploy capital across the world. Tom handles buyouts, including secondary buy-outs and secondaries, take privates and co-investments, general M&A, bolt-ons, management incentive plans, restructurings and refinancings through to exits. During the course of any investment, Tom advises on portfolio company work and any changes to management incentive plans. Tom regularly executes transactions in regulated sectors such as healthcare, technology, media and telecoms, financial services, water and energy, as well as handling many transactions in other sectors such as real estate, hotels and leisure, food, consumer and retail, industrial and automotive.

Nicholas (Nick) Azis advises a broad range of publiclyowned and privately-held clients on mergers and acquisitions transactions, principally in the commodities, energy, life science and manufacturing sectors.

Prof. Dr. Nadine Kammerlander is chairholder of family business and co-director at the Institute of Family Business and Mittelstand at WHU — Otto Beisheim School of Management. In teaching, research, and practice transfer, she focuses on innovation, leadership, and governance in family businesses and family offices.

Isabelle Cheradame specialises in advising directors, senior managers and wider management teams principally in Private Equity transactions, in relation to the negotiation, structuring and the implementation of management terms and conditions and packages for both primary or secondary LBO transactions. Isabelle also has significant practical experience in the restructuring of packages when appropriate. She also advises executive and non-executive directors, owners and shareholders in private and family-owned businesses on many key subjects including reorganization, governance and remuneration subjects. With her multicultural background as well as her broad and varied international experience, and her fluency in French, English, German and Spanish, Isabelle has advised successfully in numerous small, mid and large cap “International and Cross Border” transactions over the last 16 years
